Pooch Food : Cheddar Dog Biscuits
I find baking therapeutic.
There are times when I need some time alone to muse over certain issues or to calm my nerves, and I’ve increasingly turned to baking recently to achieve that.
And, tonight is such a night.
I’m not in the best of moods to tackle a new or complicated recipe, hence I decided to stick to a familiar recipe using existing ingredients I have in the fridge. This recipe is most suitable since it’s so easy to bake you can practically complete the deed with your eyes closed. More importantly, I have left over shredded cheddar cheese after baking the muffins for the girls on Saturday.
Cheddar Dog Biscuits
2 cup all purpose flour
1 1/4 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 cup vegetable oil
5 tbsp water, as required
- Preheat oven to 200°C.
- Line a baking tray with baking paper.
- Combine the flour, cheese and vegetable oil in a large bowl using a mixer. Mix until the mixture is of coarse meal consistency.
- With the mixer still running, slowly add water until mixture forms a stiff dough.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly-floured surface to about 1/2-inch thickness.
- Cut out using desired shape of cookie cutter.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes until bottom of the cookies are lightly browned.
- Cool on wire rack.
- Refrigerate in air-tight container.
Yield : 20 bone-shaped cookies
As usual, the girls were delighted with the treats. The cookies turned out crispy and fragrant, albeit a little oily. Reckon I’ll just reduce the vegetable oil content the next time I bake for them again.
