More about Cupcakes

Cupcakes, also known as Fairy Cakes, first evolved from muffins in the 19th century. It was named as such because around that time, the use of standard-sized cups to measure ingredients became more popular than weighing them. Another reason why the name was derived is the way cupcakes are sometimes baked in muffin cups.

There is little difference between the conventional cake and the cupcake, except that the latter is baked to serve only one person in mind. As such, there is lesser mess as there is no longer any necessity to cut the cake or to use any utensil and cutlery.

Its popularity catapulted rocket high when a few Hollywood films and series started featuring cupcakes or Magnolia Bakery, the name synonymous with cupcakes. Notably, the characters Carrie and Miranda from ‘Sex and the City’ loved to go to Magnolia Bakery to devour their delicious yet affordable cupcakes. The bakery now has a loyal cult following and long queues normally start to form near midnight during the weekends.

There is really no stopping the cupcakes phenomenon now, isn’t it?
