I Love Tiramisu!
There are tons of recipes on the internet teaching you how to make a good tiramisu, or so they claim. I even located a website totally dedicated to consoliating different tiramisu recipes from all over the world. But till today, I haven’t had any desire to try any of the recipes listed there, simply because there aren’t any photos accompanying the recipes!
I admit that I am a very visual person, especially when it comes to baking. I must have some sort of pictures to aid me when I am scouring through recipes. At the very least, it must have a picture of the final product so I know what I should be aiming towards achieving.
I suppose it isn’t any surprise that most of my baking lexicons are rather expensive since they are usually filled with pages and pages of coloured photos.
Back to tiramisu…
I found this very good recipe by a Romanian lady staying in the States from a local baking/cooking forum I am fortunate enough to be a part of. What I like about this recipe is how it doesn’t require you to dip the lady fingers into coffee and remove it. And as typical of 99.9% of tiramisu recipes I’ve come across, this is a non-bake version as well.

The lady called Vi has very graciously agreed to share her recipe with all of you out there who wish to make the tiramisu too. In fact she has posted it as well, saving me the hassle of typing out the recipe on my own. It can be found here. Thank you Vi, for sharing!
I cut down the quantity of the ingredients by half to get a 8×8 inch square cake. If I remembered correctly, her recipe is originally meant for a 9×13 inch container. Do your adjustments according to the size of your cake pan or container, but as Vi has mentioned, respect the liquid quantities.

Try it! It is really very good! I gave the whole cake to my cousin YL and she loves it! She said the amount of Baileys I used in the cake is just nice too! Neither too little nor too intoxicating. I’m going to make another one to bring to work on Monday. It’s the boss’s birthday and they asked me to bake something special.

OMG CY!!!!!! i am so making this!!
Hehe… go ahead, Evan. I’m going to make a big and a small one tonight as well.
I am addicted.
Wow! Your tiramisu look so good!!! Would look forward to try this too after the mooncake season
I have a few questions thou :
1. Where can I get this - 120 ml liquor… cocoa or coffee? U use Bailey for this? Where did u buy from?
2. 50 ml rum (alcohol not essence) Is the one that is selling at Phoon Huat?
3. For cocoa powder, which brand did use?
Thanks!
Hi Elyn,
Here’s my answers to your questions…
1) I replaced all the liquor in the recipe with Baileys Irish Cream. My hubby bought it from DFS at Changi during his last trip in July. I think NTUC and Cold Storage sell it too, but a little more expensive.
2) Heh… didn’t use rum at all. Replaced with Baileys.
3) I used Hersheys Cocoa Powder. Think Phoon Huat’s one will work fine as well.
hi! how do u remove the tiramisu from the pan?
Hi wanyi,
Maybe you could read through no. 6 of http://decadenze.com/2006/09/18/of-baileys-and-lady-fingers/#comment-153.

Hi Terence,
Sure! The first one is http://heavenlytiramisu.com/ and the second is http://www.kitchencapers.net/phpbb/.
Thanks!
Hi Cadenze,
I’m wondering which brand of whip cream did u use? I tried PH Milac but seems like could not whip up to stiff. How long did u take to whip it?
Hi Elyn,
It takes quite a while to whip it up. Almost 10-15 minutes, if I’m not wrong. PH Milac worked for me. Maybe try whipping it at a faster speed for a longer period of time?
iloved the way how my tiramisu came out it was marvelous!!elynur the best. but i have a question for you is there a way u can make tiramisu w/o the alchohol? please respond as soon as possible my sister-in-law loves my tiramisu and she wants me to make one for her daughter’s b-day but i cant use alchohol b/c she’s pregnant. please respond asap or she’ll be very disapointed
Hi Shari,
You can totally omit any form of alcohol and it will still taste as good!
While on this topic, I would advise you maybe to omit the egg whites too. Although the eggs we get in Singapore are generally quite safe, it think it’s to be safe since your SIL is pregnant.
hi shari…
i’m irdhi…
from indonesia…
i found is very good recipe…i like your tiramisu very much….
would u mind,to give me how to make your tiramisu….
thanks regards
Hi,
am interested in making this tiramisu.. but i need to your response.. intending to make it by this week. you mentioned that it is possible to omit all alcohol and it will still taste as good right?
that means that i can omit the 120 ml liquor… cocoa or coffee and 50 ml rum totally?
and to respect the liquid quantities meaning that if i change the values accordingly to the size of the baking tin i’m using, the liquid quantities remain the same?
thanks!
Hi Adrienne, I’m so sorry for this very late reply. Yes, you can omit the liquor totally. I think when the lady (who owns the recipe) said to respect the liquid quantities, it meant to cut down the proportion accordingly when your baking tin size reduces.
hi
where can i obtain this recipe? wish to try it out.
tks
