Baking Class : Of ‘Piglets’ & Flaky Skins

Attended a baking class at Creative Culinaire this afternoon with my sis (cousin YL had a last-minute appointment and had to forgo attending the class).
Initially when I was looking out for mooncake-baking classes, I was looking specifically for classes teaching us how to bake the traditional mooncakes (for The Hubby, who loves the traditional baked types). It was an extra bonus when I found out that the class offered at Creative Culinaire also teaches students how to make the flaky skin yam mooncakes Crown Prince Hotel is famous for.
I love the flaky skin yam mooncakes with such an intense passion it’s really beyond words to describe just how much I love them. I was immensely disappointed when I heard the rumours that the restaurant at Crown Prince Hotel (now known as Crown Hotel) has ceased operations. It only meant that the mooncakes I love to death are no longer available for sale. Could someone please confirm that piece of news?
So anyway, I’m glad I’ve finally learnt how to make them myself. It tastes somewhat different from the more famous ones, but for the time being, I am satisfied.
The Hubby loves the ‘piglets’ or ‘Chui Zai’ (in cantonese) as well, and he was just mentioning on Friday night that I could learn how to bake them at the class. I told him it wasn’t in the syllabus. Well… I was pleasantly surprised at the class as well. Look at the Minnie Mouse ‘piglets’ my sis and I baked this afternoon! They look so pretty I can’t bear to eat them.
We also baked the traditonal mooncakes, but have to wait for 4-5 days before it looks any good. For that matter, it will also taste nicer after sitting for a few days. I promise to take some pictures when they are good to look at, and good to eat, of course!
It’s been a long day. I was up on my feet for 5 1/2 hours at the baking class. Really need to have a good night’s rest. Till then…
