New Additions to the Library

This is my newest (albeit an unhealthy one to my pockets) hobby - collecting books on baking.  I have been a book-collector all my life, no thanks to my indulgent parents who feel that collecting books is a healthy hobby.  I still can vividly recall how my mum used to bring my younger sister and I to the AMK branch library once weekly when I was still in primary school, and how I would be lugging home 12 story books (using my parents and mine library card).  That’s not frightening enough; what’s more astonishing to my mum is how I can finish 3 books (of reasonable thickness) in a day!

I could never thank my mum enough for cultivating the habit of reading in me since young.  Honing the art of speed-reading had helped me a lot in my studies all the way up to varsity level.  However, if there is any grouse I have, it’s the anal habit I have of collecting - as opposed to borrowing - books.

Now that I’m married and have moved out of my parents’ place, the hubby (and our marital home) is now at the receiving end of this unhealthy habit.  My bookshelves are bursting with books of all genre - classics, romance, dog training, chick lit., history, philosophy, IT, finance, tom clancys, tolkeins, photography, baking, music etc.  You name it and I probably have it.  But I digress.

Baking books - the good books don’t come cheap.  They are always priced in the range close to SGD100.00 and recently, I’ve acquired quite a number of them at that price range.  Some of these books have been on my I-want-but-too-expensive list, but thanks to my company’s good performance the past year, they are now on my I-own-them list.

La Maison du Chocolat           Chocolate Desserts          Baking with Julia

         Paris Sweets          Chocolate Passion         Desserts

I haven’t been baking for a while because firstly, there have been some personal issues I have to settle and secondly, I don’t know where to begin with so many new books!  I apologise for being tardy, and I promise to get my act together really soon. :)
